About Teaching at Westgate Gallery

Whether you are an absolute beginner or experienced painter you will get a warm welcome at Westgate Gallery teaching studio. Our classes are small with a maximum of 12 people ensuring that you receive plenty of individual tuition.

Our teaching programmes offer maximum flexibility. You can attend one lesson on a trial basis or book up for a whole term. You will not be charged for lessons you can't attend.

Teaching is professional and thorough and each concept is clearly explained and demonstrated.

Teaching follows a set course through which you will explore drawing, composition, tone and colour theory.

You can be taught in the medium of your choice: watercolours, oil, pastel, acrylic, mixed media and many more. You are expected to provide your own materials but if you wish to try working in a new medium, studio materials are available free of charge.

We use a wide range of themes in our teaching programme, for example landscape / seascape, architecture, human and animal forms, botanical and expressive flower painting, still life. You can also be included in a lesson and follow a theme of your own choosing, with advice from the tutor.

We encourage you to develop your own style, rather than learning how to copy someone else's.
